The strike of the public employees got in the way of many Rally racers. The vehicles of two team arrived just in time for the competition, and a foreigner racer gave up coming to the country.

Bruno Sperancini and Thiago Vargas nearly missed the race, both on UTV. Their vehicle was prepared in France by Xtreme Plus, and when it arrived in Brazil it could not disembark in the Rio de Janeiro port. The ship anchored in Santos, São Paullo, where it was also unsuccessful, and later returned to Rio de Janeiro, being stopped for five days.

“The UTV was released on Tuesday (14) night, and the to French mechanics who accompanied the car drived 42 hours from Rio de Janeiro until São Luis”, told Vargas. “They went taking turns and only stopped 2 hours. When they arrived, the only thing they ask for was two beers.

Peterhansel also had problems. The vehicle of the Dakar Champion arrived to Maranhão only Friday (17) morning, but he did not bother. “Whenever we go to distant places we have problems with customs” he said. “We never have much security on long trips. The car is here and I was not stressed about it”.

Christophe Barriere-Varju, Australia, was not as lucky. He got to take his car to Miami, but when contacted Dunas, the company that organizes the International Sertões Rally, was informed that due to strike the car could not be released in enough time.

Thiago Vargas, who is migrating from cars, recalled that the customs not only hinders the entry of whole vehicles. “I’ve had trouble importing wheels and fuel tanks. Constantly need parts abroad and go through these difficulties” he declared.

He said “we need this primary structure to unload the equipment’s Something that Brazil must improve to host events of this size, as the International Sertões Rally, which grew very much”
