Marcos Moraes, director of Sertões International Rally, was excited by the race in 2011, which ended on Friday (19), at Caucaia (CE), and is already talking about changes for 2012. The competition also received praise from drivers. Many commented that this was the toughest of the 19 races already completed.
“It was one of the best editions we've made”, said the manager. "The technical level was amazing. The specials were excellent: we managed do a good surveillance of the line, route, regions we were going to cross."
For the 20 years, he plans to change so that more riders have a better chance in the race. "We will seek improvements in the issue of penalties, so that we can make things more balanced. The forfeit [burst timeout in each special] generates a very harsh punishment and that takes some of the competitiveness of the race" he said.
“Another detail is the evolution of GPS. We must give an alternative to the drivers in the end of the day, to download their waypoints, see them in the computer screen and check what they have done and where they made mistakes”.
Moraes also was excited with the dispute between the Frenchman Cyril Despres and Brazilian Felipe Zanol on bikes: "I've never seen anything like that, not even when with the Volkswagen Touaregs. To get an idea, in the second leg of the marathon, 428 km, the difference between the first two was only five hundredths. This shows that Brazilian riders are evolving and with excellent technical level".
There were 4,041 kilometers were covered in ten days, from Goiânia (GO) Caucaia (CE). The race went through five Brazilian states.
