After Goiania, the capital of Tocantins will receive the 18th edition of Sertões International Rally with great infrastructure and the status of one of the safest cities in the country. Like Brasilia, Palmas has as main feature the planning, from the streets to green areas in the region, and was the last one in the twentieth century to be projected.
The story of Palmas is recent. It was founded on May 20, 1989 after the creation of Tocantins state in the Constitution of 88. In the year after its foundation, it already became the state capital and part of the population, in search of work, moved to the center. The city now reaches approximately 200 thousand inhabitants and economic growth of over 8% higher than the Brazilian rate.
Despite the winter between June and August, tourism in Palmas is moved by the period of river beaches. Additionally, tourist attractions such as Parque Cesamar, Praia da Graciosa, Taquaruçu waterfalls and Feira do Bosque are natural highlights of Palmas.
Climate and vegetation - The heat is prevalent in most of the capital of Tocantins, with average temperatures between 22ºC and 36ºC in warmer months, especially in September, the maximum registered was 44°C. The rainy season is well distributed, with high concentration between the months of October through April. The driest month is generally July.
The city is located on a plateau between Carmo and Lajeado mountains, and the vegetation, in general, is characterized by cliffs.
