Definitely, the second day of the Sertões was the stone in the way of the car driver, Paulo Nobre (314), Palmeirinha: he had already had various problems in this same stage in the previous editions of the rally: in 2006, 2007 and 2010.
In 2011 the curse hit again: today, a stone broke the driver’s car wheel. “We were doing a strategic rally, monitoring the leader for him not to open advantage, until the famous stone in the path appeared”, the driver told Webventure.
“To be truthful, I didn’t even see the stone”, the car navigator, Filipe Palmeiro retorted. “But it caught us so strongly that it broke the wheel that rolled off in front of the car.” The duo then had to change it, but the bang had also broken the brake tube.
Because of the problem, they had to stop to isolate the brake. “Who did this, actually was Palmeirinha, because if it were to depend on me, I would be there until now”, the navigator jokes. “We then went on with the brake only on three wheels, which is very, very difficult, because, every time we braked, it was practically a full spin”. The last 100 kilometers were a nightmare. “I almost turned over on a curve, as when I braked the car would go bouncing on its side”, the driver said.
“Now we have to try to pick up the pieces. We will sleep well tonight and tomorrow is another day. After all, it’s what I always say: this Palmeirense (supporter of the Palmeiras soccer team) never gives up”.
