The city of Goiânia is an old acquaintance of the rally: ever since 2002 the take-off happens there. The capital of Goiás is the sixth largest city in Brazil in extension, with 256.8 square kilometers of urban area, where just over 1.3 million people live.
There, also, is the largest concentration of green area per inhabitant in the country: 95 square meters per inhabitant. The climate is tropically humid, and the average annual temperature is 22.9°C. The rains are concentrated in the summer months and the dry period goes from May to September.
The Meia Ponte River cuts the urban area of Goiânia, along with various water courses with lesser volume, such as the Anicuns, Botafogo and Capim-Puba streams. In the city there are many art déco style buildings, protected by the Institute of Historical and Artistic Heritage.
Tourism Highlights
Museum of Ornitology: has a collection of 120 thousand pieces, valued at 15 million dollars. Considered the largest in the world, it counts on pre-historic and rare pieces from the animal world. There is a collection of stuffed animals, with mammals, rare birds, reptiles, fish, mollusks and butterflies.
Monument to the Three Races: it is the symbol of the city. On designing it, the artist, Neusa Moraes, symbolized the miscegenation of the three races: white, black and Indian.
Buritis Forest: this is the most central park in the capital, which allows for walks on the paths surrounded by trees and hundreds of small animals.
