The rider David Casteu came to Sertões International Rally aiming to be the champion of the race and to be crowned world champion. Despite finishing in 4th position overall, the French secured his first world rally cross-country win.
Even before crossing the finish line at the end of the special, the rider was already celebrating a lot, doing a number one with his hand. Very happy, the rider did not stop yelling "World Champion", and had didn’t have the time to turn off the bike. He left everything behind and hugged all competitors, including the champions Marc Coma (bikes) and Rafal Sonik (quads).
This was the rider’s first title, who began to dispute in World Championships in 2000 and three years later made his debut in the Rally Dakar. Before the title, 2008 was the rider’s most successful year, with titles Rally in Central Europe - that 'replaced' the Dakar - and the Pharaohs Rally.
